Yaiza

Yaiza can be found in the south of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. To say it is pretty is an underestimate, Yaiza is so picturesque it has been voted ‘Prettiest Village in Spain’ twice in recent years. Aside from being an attractive white-washed pueblo, Yaiza is also a local municipal with the seaside resorts of Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero

During the 17th century there was a period of volcanic activity on Lanzarote; in which much of the local towns were destroyed; although Yaiza stood in the path of the lava flow, the town survived unscathed. The volcanic region is now known as Timanfaya National Park and attracts many tourists to the region.

Around Yaiza
Yaiza isn’t called the ‘Prettiest Town in Spain’ for nothing; small but beautifully formed is how you could best describe the town. The surrounding volcanic landscape is in stark contrast with the colourful plants and flowers that line the streets and squares of Yaiza. The town is also home to the charming 17th century Nuestra Señora de los Remedios church, which also miraculously survived the volcanic eruption. Although some might say that it’s construction blessed Yaiza.

Around town you will find a pleasant selection of bars and shops to make your stay comfortable. Yaiza enjoys an easy pace of life; if you are looking for a more upbeat destination, then you are better off heading to one of the nearby coastal resorts, such as Puerto del Carmen or Yaiza’s own Playa Blanca.

Places of interest
The Timanfaya National Park is Lanzarote’s number one tourist attraction. Home to the Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains), this incredible lavascape appears almost luna-like, with its huge craters and rare plant species. There are guided coach tours and even camel rides across the volcanic landscape.

A trip to the beaches at Playa Blanca is just a 15 minute drive away. Here you can enjoy a laid-back, family resort with some stunning beaches, such as Dorada and Flamingo, and close by are Papagayo Beaches with their pure white sands and crystal clear waters. At Playa Blanca you will also find a wider selection of bars, restaurants and shops. There is a shopping centre in the new marina area.

You can combine and ideal holiday between the town of Yaiza and Playa Blanca, enjoying the best of both worlds.

Eating Out
In Yaiza there are a handful of bars and restaurants, which serve predominantly local Canarian cuisine. In Playa Blanca you will find a wider selection of eateries serving up International cuisine.

Climate
If you are looking for winter sun then head to Yaiza. The Canary Islands enjoy all-year-round sunny warm weather. Average temperatures during the winter months are around 18-20 degrees and during the summer rise

Yaiza review

Yaiza is a small village but has all you need. Supermarket is stocked well and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the Bodega Santiago and the tapas bar on the main street.

Yaiza review

In fact the city of Playa Blanca is a holliday village. but with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and terraces. The long boulevard is good for a lovely evening stroll. Timanfaya NP, Los Hervideros, Salinas del Janubio and Charco de Los Clicos are neareby.
