Sant Pere Pescador

The town of Sant Pere Pescador is located on the River Fluvia, and is sited in an area of rich farmland with many fruit trees; the primary crop locally are apples.

The town is well equipped for tourists, with adequate tourist information available, good local shopping facilities for groceries, banks, bars and restaurants.

Sant Pere Pescador is located to the north east of the city of Girona, close to the Gulf of Roses. The transfer time from the airport is approximately one hour.

History
The small town of Sant Pere Pescador originated in medieval times and has a castle dating back to the 15th Century. With the draining of the marshes in the 17th century came prosperity and an increase in population. To this day, many migrant workers are billeted in the area during harvest time.

Beaches

The main attraction of Sant Pere is the 7 kilometres of uninterrupted sandy beach that the area affords. The beach is particularly picturesque, and a short walk from the main stretch can leave you in splendid isolation.

Leisure & Recreation
The prevailing brisk winds make this a mecca for windsurfers, and lovers of fishing cannot find a better destination in the Costa Brava than Sant Pere Pescador. Innumerable fishing fans line the banks of the river and the beach. Sunday is the busiest day.

The Fluvià River is also a popular location for Kayaking and there is equipment hire and purchase available for this and otherwater-sports, including water-skiing.

The local area is not densely populated and is ideal for walkers, twitchers, cyclists and runners. Other local activities nearby include tennis, horse riding and sky diving.

Fiesta

In June the locality celebrates its ‘fiesta mayor’ (the town’s main festival).

Market day
Wednesday is market day, when fresh fruit and vegetable are available from the local market gardens.

Excursions
Figueres, Castelló dEmpúries, the ruins of Empúries or the Natural Park Aigüamolls of the Empordà all make parts of or day trips on their own.

Golf
There is no golf course in San Pere Pescador, however, there are several very fine golf courses within one hour’s drive, many of which welcome the visiting golfer with open arms.

Eating out
The restaurant offering in San Pere Pescador is fairly limited, however, a trip to any of the neighbouring towns or major resorts bring the world to your palate. Having said that, you can enjoy a hearty meal at the long established Restaurant Can Trona.

Cuisine
The gastronomy of Catalonia is rich and varied. Principally it is the typical Mediterranean diet of fish and seafood with fresh vegetables, olives and olive oil rice and pasta.

We recommend that visitors try some traditional Catalan dishes whilst on holiday, especially delicious are

Escudella I Carn D'olla, vegetable broth with pork, veal and chicken. Pa Amb Tomàquet,

simply rustic bread, can be toasted, rubbed with tomato pulp and dressed with oil and salt; these delcious breakfast can also be served with ham, sausage or tortilla.

Coca is a very thin dough baked with onions, peppers and other vegetables served with and meats, or fish (especially sardines).

Climate
San Pere Pescador, although quite a breezy location, enjoys long languid summer. Autumn is a busy time as the harvest is brought in; a beautiful season of golden sunsets and warm comfortable days. Winter storms can froth and frighten the seas into a spraying frenzy, and then die down just as quickly into quiet sunlit peacefulness. In springtime the blossoms drink in the warm rays of the sun.
