Punta Prima lies on the Mediterranean coast some 50 minutes drive south of Alicante aerodrome, and around 30 minutes drive from the mixed military and passenger air field at San Javier, Murcia.
Located on the beach, Punto Prima is a large mixed urbanisation of apartments, townhouses and villas, some 5 kilometres to the south west of Torrevieja.
Beaches The local beaches have earned a staggering sixty-seven European Blue Flags and vary from secluded sandy dunes with magnificent pine wood picnic areas to long flat sandy beaches extending many kilometres.
Excursions Torrevieja has a fabulous range of facilities, including the lovely esplanade with its outdoor cafes and harbour area - perfect for an evening stroll. It also has many shops, tapas bars and restaurants, which are open all year round, plus an incredible indoor market that sells a huge variety of fresh fish, fruit and vegetables.
Markets You can find a market near Punta Prima every day of the week along the coast and inland. The market at Playa Flamenca, which is held on Saturday mornings, is certainly one of the best and easiest to mooch around. It is well worth a visit, and takes place adjacent to the resort.
Eating out & Nightlife There are numerous restaurants catering for a wide variety of tastes - English, Spanish, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Japanese and others. There is a fabulous authentic American restaurant just across the main road from the resort.
For those who want a more livelier holiday, there is a discotheque at the Torrejoven Hotel, just a stroll away.
Golf At Punta Prima, there are numerous golf courses nearby and within one hours drive from the rresort, you will find a suitable course for any standard of player.
Golf Club Campoamor - The fairways are wide & long. The greens & the slopes of the fairways are the challenges. Las Ramblas Golf Club - Located between two ravines, next to a luxury housing estate, this course requires the player to use great precision when hitting the ball as both fairways & greens are narrow & demanding. Villamartin Golf Club - The variety of the 18 holes offered by this course is achieved by the excellent design that offers enthusiasts the chance to enjoy using all 14 clubs. Of note are the fast greens which are always magnificently maintained. La Marquesa Golf Club - Lying in a valley between two mountains, this course is mainly flat making it very suitable for walking. It has wide fairways interspersed with canals, lakes. La Manga Golf Club is only 30 minutes away by car.
Leisure & recreation All manner of water-sports can be pursued in Torrevieja; including wind-surfing, sailing, and para-gliding.
The town has further excellent sports facilities including tennis, bowling, athletics, football and paddle.
There are literally kilometres of broad well-maintained promenade, which makes it an ideal location for walkers.
The great salt lakes nearby are wonderful bird sanctuaries where sightings of herons and flamingos are commonplace.
Climate The Costa Blanca enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with cool sea breezes in summer and protection by surrounding mountains against the cold North winds in winter. The area averages nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year and the average temperature easily exceeds 20 degrees.
In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world - neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. On average it can boast 325 sunny days each year making it an ideal all year round destination
The beaches were rather crowded and after a local storm a lot of seaweed washed up onto the nearest beach. They spent a few days clearing it up and bringing more sand to replace that which had been washed away.
We didn't find a corner shop so it was an hours round trip to the supermarket on foot from our apartment, and to the main strip of restaurants.
We loved the seclusion of the townhouse in Punta Prima which had all the amenities and facilities required but in 5 - 10 minutes, one could be in the heart of town
