Palamos is In the heart of the Costa Brava, washed by the crystal clear sea and close to the coastal mountains. Located 55 minutes drive from Girona Airport on the North Eastern Mediterranean coast of Spain.
This modern resort set around a yacht harbour full of yachts is the last stop on the cruceros cruise run. The town was originally founded in 1277, and the old town is separated from the new tourist resort by a headland.
Palamos still retains its fishing industry, with the catch of the day being auctioned off on the quayside in the late afternoon. The fishing port, like the old town, is separated from the sports harbour by the promontory.
Beaches Enjoy Palamos' beautiful beaches and creeks, where the locals are friendly and welcoming, and where the diving is good.
Cala Estreta is one of the most beautiful beaches; a sandy beach with shallow water, and a mixed seabed of sand and rock. You can reach it from the road leading to the Platja de Castell
Cala Margarida has mooring for small craft; it’s located close to the centre of town and is a shingle cove with shallow water and a rocky seabed.
La Fosca. Beach has a centre of fine sand which is bordered by dark rocky areas, giving the beach it's name of La Fosca, or Dark Beach). Platja de Castell is a broad sandy beach surrounded by a natural landscape. On the beach there are the ruins of an ancient Iberian Castle.
Leisure & Recreation Diving and water-sports are well catered for locally. Nearby there is also a riding school, tennis and soccer.
There are plenty of quiet roads for cyclists to enjoy. Walkers and runners will enjoy the miles of spectacular coastline.
Eating out
There is a good choice of restaurants in both the old and new parts of the town. For traditional Mediterranean fare try some of the fish restaurants close to the main harbour.
Nightlife
Nightlife is fairly low-key, although there are some establishments where locals and tourists alike enjoy music and dancing until the early hours.
Culture The old town has some fine churches, and in the local area there are several castles. The Fishing museum in the old fishing port is also very interesting.
Fiestas There are colourful and exciting fiestas in Palamos. The festival of San Juan in June fills the streets, and the festival of Carmen fills the sea with a procession of boats in August. Other festivals take place throughout the year.
Cuisine The gastronomy of Catalonia is rich and varied. Principally it is the typical Mediterranean diet of fish and seafood with fresh vegetables, olives and olive oil rice and pasta.
We recommend that visitors try some traditional Catalan dishes whilst on holiday, especially delicious are Escudella I Carn D'olla, vegetable broth with pork, veal and chicken. Pa Amb Tomàquet, simply rustic bread, can be toasted, rubbed with tomato pulp and dressed with oil and salt; these delcious breakfast can also be served with ham, sausage or tortilla.
Coca is a very thin dough baked with onions, peppers and other vegetables served with and meats, or fish (especially sardines).
Climate Palamos enjoys a Mediterranean climate of long hot summers tempered by cooling sea breezes and mild spring and autumn with a cool occasionally wet winter.

Palamos is very nice and beautiful city with a lot of activity to do there.
La Fosca is near Palamos. It is quiet and with stunning views. There is a castle in La Fosca and diving is also available.
A very nice city with a wonderfull atmosphere of quieteness, amicability. Regardless to lots of tourists it does not give a feeling of a typically beach-and-hotels touristic place. On the contrary, you immmerse in the atmosphere of the town, becomes an integral part of it.
