Orba

The charming village of Orba is located in the province of Alicante, 154 metres above sea level.
It belongs to the city of Denia (which is 18 km away); to the North are the villages of Tormos and Pego, to the South, Murla and Alcalali, to the East is the village of Benidoleig and to the West, Vall d’Ebo and Vall d’Laguart.

A small village, Orba is home to just over 2000 inhabitants, although it is increasing in popularity with both foreign residents and holidaymakers. The town is very convenient being situated close to both Alicante and Valencia airports.

Cottage Industry
Orba is a traditional village and the craft of pottery still remains and forms a part of the local industry. The village also produces leather handbags.

Agriculture
The village is located within a large fertile valley where mainly citrus fruit is grown. Agriculture is also an important income source.

What to see
The village church is situated on the site of an old mosque, the interior is especially attractive and many paintings from local artist Carlos Ruano Llopis adorn the walls of the church . A few minutes walk away you come to the village of Orbeta. There are also several urbanisations on the outskirts.

Golf
There is a good selection of championship courses within an hour’s drive of Orba.

Beaches
There are many fine sandy beaches at Denia and along the coastline approximately 20 minutes drive away.

Leisure & recreation
The area is suitable for a walking holiday.

Car Hire
A hire car is recommended for sightseeing and getting around.

Eating out & entertainment
There are plenty of restaurants, ventas and bars in and around Orba. Most offer a good value ‘Menu of the Day’ and of course the speciality of the region, Paella, is always on the menu. There are many places serving snacks and tapas, a pizza restaurant in the centre and there is even an Indian restaurant on the outskirts of the village.

For those who wish to enjoy and celebrate a traditional Spanish fiesta (festival), the biggest festival is held in May over a four-day weekend and a week-long fiesta is held at the end of July beginning of August. If you are adventurous, then the bull running season takes place throughout June and July.

Climate
Orba enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, very hot in summer and protected by surrounding mountains against the cold North winds in winter. The area averages nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year and the average temperature easily exceeds 20 degrees.

In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world - neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. On average it can boast 325 sunny days each year making it an ideal all year round destination.

Orba review

Orba is small but has bars, cafes and shops. We like to sit with a coffee or beer and watch the village life. ALways something going on during the summer months involving local traditions. Local people very friendly. Lovely little place to stay.

Costa Blanca reviews

We have visited Costa Blanca many times and like the area. Beaches are good. Spanish food is good. Locals friendly. Lots of nice restaurants if you look for them. Also good walking and nature reserves.
