Bunol lies 38 kilometres inland from the city of Valencia situated on the Buñol river, surrounded by mountain ranges and agriculture.
History There is archaeological evidence that suggests there has been civilisation in Bunol going back 50,000 years. The town is also home to the Castle of Bunol, which is a fascinating historical site in its own right.
Culture The small town is a working town of approximately 9,000 residents, involved in industry and agriculture; producing carob, almonds, citrus fruits, olives, grapes and tomatoes.
Tomatina Festival In late August the town is descended upon each year by over 30,000 people for the Tomatina Festival where tomatoes are gleefully thrown at one another.
Aside from the town and castle, the beautiful mountain ranges and landscape that surround Bunol make it especially worth a visit. If you can make it during August for the Tomatina Festival, then you can expect a unique experience never to be forgotten!
A very convenient centre for getting to know the area. Close to small towns with pleasant 'dining'and 'coffe' squares and typically Spanish. Very friendly locals.
we wanted to stay in a non touristy place wit real spanish life going on. Bunol was that for sure.
Really easy going nice people in this town.
We don't speak hardly any spanish but it wasn't even a problem as everyone in the town tried to speak english and helped us out. It was a good laugh :-)
Costa de Valencia reviews
Valencia city is on the coast and is a beautiful city. The beach there is great for families and we liked the fact that there were restaurants right along the main beach promanade.
