Alcoceber

Alcoceber on the Costa del Azahar is sandwiched between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra de Irta mountain range. The town is laid out below the Sierra de Irta, enjoying 10 kilometres of beach and sand dunes. It’s a beautiful place to visit.

Natural Area
The nature reserve of Sierra de Irta is an excellent location for ramblers who are rewarded with spectacular views and scenery. The vegetation of the area is rich and varied offering many herbs such as, Rosemary, Lavender, Thyme and more, which give the air a rich aroma.

Arbutus, Junipers, Camomile and Rock Tea also grow wildly along countless marked routes. The northern coast is as wild and rugged as the Sierra de Irta. Rural tracks lead down to the sea where rocky areas alternate with tiny inlets of clear water, a paradise for diving enthusiasts.

Beaches
There are 10 kilometres of coastline to enjoy in the area around Alcoceber. Las Fuentes beach is the most visited and aptly named, Las Fuentes (The Source), as it is where fresh water emerges and joins the sea. At the Carregador and Romana beaches you will find sand dunes covering an area of 6,000 m². There are numerous other coves and beaches and plenty of areas to explore along the coastline.

Activities
The town also offers various activities and places of interest. The port offers the opportunity to go diving and partake in other nautical sports such as sailing and scuba diving, and also the chance to discover the Columbrete Islands, which are nature reserves. There is also a sports club with tennis courts, swimming pool, and other recreational facilities such as football pitches and basketball courts.

History & Architecture
The site was a settlement long before the birth of Christ and with its old quarter and high steeples, you can lose yourself in the past in Alcoceber. The Templario Castle is a fascinating building; the structure has been influenced throughout the ages by occupying forces, most notably the Moors and Christians.

Cuisine
As with the vast majority of Spanish costal towns and cities, a healthy Mediterranean seafood and fish menu is the main diet of the area. Predominantly served with rice the fruits of the sea served in Alcoceber are particularly fresh and delicious. The town also, due largely to Arabic influence, has a strong tradition of producing confectionery.

Alcoceber is a fascinating place to explore: historical, cultural, charming and with plenty of activities for the visitors.
