Torridon 8.9 miles. Down House is a fabulous timber cottage sitting in the woods in Diabaig near Torridon in the northwest Highlands. The ideal getaway for couples, Down House enjoys a simply magical setting in the heart of five acres of private woodland and the views from the outside decking through the forest to the loch and mountains beyond are truly mesmerising, whatever the weather or time of year. On entering the cottage, the visitor is greeted by a rustic and welcoming sitting room with plenty of snug seating facing the windows and those gorgeous views with an attractive woodburning stove providing a warming centre point to the room. As the sun sets and darkness descends in the forest, there is nowhere better to curl up with your loved one and watch the nightfall outside. You can even throw open the French door onto the decking area which maximises the benefit of any sunshine on offer, making it the perfect place for a sundowner in the evening or a steaming cup of coffee in the morning as the sun comes up. This idyllic cottage has a woodland setting and is perfect for both walkers and cyclists with routes around this estate.. "Acres of peaceful and secluded countryside surround these magnificent cottages..." At the heart of Glenprosen, one of the renowned ‘Glens of Angus’, lies the Balnaboth Estate on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park; 6,000 peaceful and secluded acres surrounding 16th-century Balnaboth House. In its midst, these six characterful holiday cottages each offer a unique and magical holiday retreat; indeed the creator of Peter Pan himself (Sir James Barrie) was born in nearby Kirriemuir and holidayed here. These cottages were once occupied by shepherds, gardeners or other staff of the Ogilvy family when this was a traditional Victorian sporting estate. Red squirrels play in the trees, otters frequent the burns, and deer graze all around. Because of the varied scenery, that varies from beech woods to forest, pasture to heather moor, mountain streams to river pools, the area enjoys a spectacular range of wildlife, including species largely extinct elsewhere in Britain, such as black game and ptarmigan. Magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking and (in season) cross-country skiing abound on the estate and, further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Fishing is available on a 5-mile stretch of the River Prosen, and there are twenty golf cours...

This small wooden chalet, perfect for couples in an outstanding secluded position on the shore of Loch Shiel. Scenes from the Harry Potter films were shot from this spot and 'the viaduct' is close by, as is the Glenfinnan Monument which marks the landing point of Bonnie Prince Charlie's return to Scotland to attempt to take back the throne. The surroundings are spectacular with easy access to some of the most famous breathtaking scenery in the Highlands including Eilan Donan Castle and The Isle of Skye. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. A boat is available for trout fishing or exploring on request (Petrol is charged as used). Fort William, with all its facilities, is 25 minutes' drive away and also is the start of the steam train to Mallaig which crosses the now famous Harry Potter viaduct - well worth a trip! The Glenfinnan House Hotel is within walking distance from the chalet, at approx 1/4 mile distance and the nearest convenience store (a Co-op) can be found about 8 miles away in Corpach. The area offers plentiful opportunities for outdoor pursuits be it Rock climbing in Glencoe, skiing the Nevis range or general walking and biking together of course with waterborne activities including fishing trips from Fort William. You will love everything about Mey Bee. The beautiful interiors make the most of the land and seascapes, and the gardens are unique and lovely - zen garden and private veg patch is a real treat.. Mey Bee is a gem of a cottage in the far north of Scotland enjoying views across rural Caithness and out to see to the Orkney Islands. The owner has done a marvellous job creating this peaceful, attractive cottage from what was once a ruin. Mey Bee is now a beautiful cottage and one that anyone staying in will wish they had more time in the place, it’s that lovely. You may wish to book for longer than you think, you’ll be pleased you did so. The setting is inspiring and calming. Set within an acre of wildflower meadow the cottage sits under the large Caithness skies because the landscape in the far north is relatively flat, meaning that the views are vast from the cottage. The cliffs of Hoy can be seen when clear and if the light is right The Old Man of Hoy can be made out. Dunnet Head rises above the surrounding landscape., and generally sea views are enjoyed out of most windows of Mey Bee - thankfully, the owner has created window seats to enjoy said views. Arriving at Mey Bee you’re immediately struck by the tranquillity of the place. It has a calmness which is epitomised not only by the wonderful surrounds but also the Zen garden to the rear of the property. Before going into the p...

This converted gate lodge offers single-storey accomodation, complete with an open fire.. Fishing is available on a 5-mile stretch of the River Prosen, and there are twenty golf courses within an hours’ drive. Enjoy...
